Filing Cabinet Chalk Paint Makeover

When I think of filing cabinets, I think of the lifeless version on the left.  I picked up two filing cabinets for a great deal on Craigslist with a plan to make them go from depressed to distressed!!!

  • First, I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.
  • Next, I added some cocoa colored paint that I mixed from paint samples.
  • Then, I traced the edges of the cabinet to make it appear like the white paint had worn down.
  • Finally, I did a coat of clear wax, followed by the dark wax.
This close up does the chalk paint distressed look more justice.  I can't wait to have this entire room arranged so I can share just how beautiful it looks with the chalk paint desk I painted, so even though the room isn't done, I thought I'd show them to you the pics side by side to see how it's coming together.

I am so PUMPED at how this is turning out.  I used to be in love with offices from a certain upscale catalogue.  I'm totally glad that was never in the budget! I love this custom look a whole lot more.

Have you been making over any furniture lately?
