Making Things New: 18 Days Until Justin Trade Days

I'm seeing stars.  A dream coming true.  These beautiful, dusty, rustic stars represent my sentiment of having my own boutique.  Funky.  Country.  Junky.  Tie this sentiment to the launching of Justin Trade Days, and you can see just how blessed I feel.

I have been junking hardcore the last three weeks to build up my stock for Justin Trade Days.  Each week, there has been a sale where I picked up a star.  I wasn't purposely searching for stars, but I am amazed that they have become a metaphor on my journey.

In the Bible, stars are a symbol representing a journey to redemption.  Abraham's descendents were to number the stars, and it was from his family line that the redemption of mankind would be born- the Morning Star, he is called in Revelation.  He ultimately will make everything new.  That's why I love the work he is blessing me to do.  There is such hope in bringing new life to people's discarded, things.  It is an absolute pleasure to make them new and share them with you.

I am much like this pedestal table.  The owner put it for sale because someone used one of the accompanying chairs for the wrong purpose, and the chair broke.  I had an employer who used me much the same way.  I got fired from that job when they were done with me.  That job loss hurt.  I didn't understand it.  I didn't want to slip into a season of bone-crushing depression, but I did for an entire year.

It really hurts to have a broken leg because someone used you, knowing they were promising you something that wouldn't come true just to accomplish what they needed done.  Betrayal wounds are deep, but there is hope for a day when it will all be made new.  I can't wait to repurpose this broken chair the way that Jesus has repurposed me.

I want to invite you to come along on an 18 day journey with me- a blog series to commemorate the journey to the very first ever Justin Trade Days on November 10th and 11th.  This isn't just about stuff.  It's not just about makeovers.  This about celebrating the art of making things new.

Justin Trade Days will be held November 10th-11th at 15306 Hwy 114, Justin, Texas 76247.

  5. This post really touched me. Thanks for the reminder about renewal. It really doesn't matter what other people do to us in the end. :)
You know, I, too, have a thing for stars but never thought about them in this context.
    Hmmm. :)
