Turquoise & Rust Nightstand: 7 Days Until Justin Trade Days

I have conquered a nightstand.  It literally tried to conquer me by making itself difficult to paint.  Then I let it get ahold of me by using the wrong brush.  When I finished painting it white, it just looked uneven and lacking.  Now, white would have looked gorgeous and would have brought brightness into a space, but it would have taken sanding and repainting, and another can of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.  Sometimes furniture doesn't cooperate, even when using the right materials.   Don't give up on a project gone wrong.  Go with your gut!  I did just that, and the result is this turquoise and rust dream.

I wish my camera could properly capture the color.  It's not as neon as it appears, but just a bit deeper blue than the screen suggests.  After painting over the Old White with Florence, I did a distressing technique with Martha Stewart Chestnut Brown Acrylic Paint and Behr Cacao.

The pulls had a brassy look with black hammered details.  I painted over it with Old White because it looked stale.  I Sanded down so the brass could peek out, and I added the Chestnut Brown, Florence, and Cacao in layers to give the metal a deep patina.  From there I started to highlight other places and ended up using this technique on the entire piece.

This will really be a gorgeous addition to a room.  It surprisingly goes with most any color.  I plan on finishing its mate, but I have got to get started on those table and chairs first! There's much to be done.  I don't know if you noticed, but I somehow got off a day, and Justin Trade Days are a week away.  If you just can't wait to check out what else has been going on at Howdy Honey, you should peek at the list of posts below to catch up on this 18 day series (maybe only 17 days since I messed up counting ;D).
