Rescued: A Coffee Table Ditched at the Curb

I love it when I get a call from a friend who has a good eye for junk on the curb.  Minnie called me with a good score a few weeks ago.  It was bulk pick up day, and someone broke up with their coffee table.  It was really sad.  Not just normal sad, but also because a bird pooped on it.  SIGH.  I know.  Sob story.

Regardless, I knew it was perfect.  That X-base with THAT tray top... I was in love.  My husband didn't mind.  In fact, I think he could totally envision it after I gave it a little love.  The glorious words left his mouth, "I hope we keep this. " My heart was overjoyed.

Here's the after:

It is EXACTLY what this space needed to give that Howdy Honey touch.

Check out the amazing patina! I painted it Old White by Annie Sloan & did one coat of clear wax.  Then, I used a sanding sponge to reveal the black around the edges and corners.

Here's how this side of our living room looks now:

Thanks for visiting!
Keep up, Honey!

  1. Love, Love this table!!! I just can't believe people throw furniture away!! Chris and I have thought about taking it back to them after we've painted it and leaving it on their doorstep. Maybe one day! How fun would that be?? :) Love it girl!!! Have I told you how much I love that deer silhouette in the background... LOVE! ;) Hugs!! Claire

  2. I am very jealous of you finding discarded furniture. Guess people in western CO don't do that, bummer. I keep hoping but just not happenin'. Great find and save. Looks so different now, isn't that sweet hubs wanted to keep the table?

    1. I used to feel like the only person who didn't have the ability to find a good dumpster to dive. In Fort Worth, the city offers bulk pick up as a service, but other surrounding communities just have you pay the dump to take stuff.

It wouldn't surprise me if CO folks just don't throw stuff out. Maybe people are donating or they could be just taking it to the dump, too, I guess.

SO thrilled he said yes when it was back in the poopy stage!

    1. Thanks, Melissa! I am so blessed to have a friend who'll hoard up stuff on trash day! My neighborhood doesn't do bulk trash, so when I get the call, I hit the pavement!
